    Within the Andalucian provinces of Grenada and Almeria, is Sierra Nevada ("snow-covered mountain range"), one of the southernmost alpine regions of Europe and a truly captivating place to visit! The highest point of the Sierra (and, indeed, of continental Spain) is Mulhacén, at 3,478 metres above sea-level. Due to it's proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, the Sierra has a unique 'Mediterranean Subarctic' climate, characterized by extreme temperatures. The unique location and altitude of Sierra Nevada makes it one of the best places to ski and snowboard in the world.
